PayPal Configuration - Home

Managing Online Donations is a multi-step, multi-component process. Silent Partner Software is here to help your donors donate online, and to help you manage donor and donation data in a secure and efficient manner.

The High-Level Business Process

The following scenario describes just one way to implement web donations with PayPal. Silent Partner Professional Services will work with you to determine the best configuration for your unique requirements.

  1. There is a Donate Button on your public-facing website, with optional text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons and drop down list boxes.
  2. When your donor clicks the Donate button he is transferred over to PayPal's website.
    • He will see your organization's logo and name at the top of the page if you have uploaded a banner graphic to your PayPal account.
    • He has the choice to pay with his PayPal account or use his credit card.
    • Once the payment has been processed by PayPal, both your organisation and your donor will receive a confirmation e-mail from PayPal.
  3. Once your donor has finished paying he could see a customized PayPal message or be transferred back to your website's Thank You Page
    • The Thank You page can be custom programmed to do things like integrating donation information back into Silent Partner, sending a customized acknowledgement e-mail or recording information to a custom database.
      • Please note that custom development on your public-facing website falls outside the scope of your Silent Partner support license.
      • Silent Partner Software's Professional Services team will undertake a full requirements assessment and recommend a solution to meet your requirements.
      • Silent Partner can provide the necessary information to the individual who currently maintains your public-facing website, or we can recommend web developers who are familiar with our system.
  4. Data-entry and Donation Management
    • You can run reports and get limited information about your donors and donations when you login to your PayPal account. This information can be manually keyed-in to Silent Partner.
    • If your organization receives a high volume of donations you can use Cloud Services tools to download and import this information into Silent Partner in a semi-automated way, saving you time and preventing the entry of duplication donors and data-entry mistypes.

Configuration & Management

Step 1 - Your PayPal Account

  1. Sign up for your organisation's Merchant account at PayPal.
    • It may take a few days to link and verify your organization's bank account.
  2. Optional - Create a "Thank you for your Donation" page on your Public-Facing website.
  3. Save your PayPal Configuration to your Cloud Services account.
  4. Customize your PayPal account pages at PayPal.
    • PayPal provides Merchants with a Setup and Administration Guide that you may find helpful.
    • Add your organization's logo and header graphics to your payment page.
    • Link in your public-facing site's Thank You page.
    • Review your settings for PayPal Account Optional - Turning on this setting allows donors to donate without creating a paypal account
    • Review your settings for Auto-Return - If Auto-Return is on, donors are automatically sent to your Thank You page. If Auto-Return is off, donors will see a link to your Thank You page, which they may not choose to click.
      • Make sure Auto-Return is turned on if you have set up custom actions on the Thank You page.

Step 2 - Accept Donations

  1. Customize your Public-facing Website.
    • Use Cloud Services to generate forms that are integrated with your organization's web G/L accounts.
    • Paste this code into your public-facing website.
    • Create the Thank You page.

Step 3 - Manage your Donations

  1. Open a batch in Silent Partner Desktop and import donor and transaction information from PayPal.
