If Silent Partner Desktop is not working normally, or you are receiving error messages, there are 4 simple steps you can take before calling for support.
Ensure all users are signed out of Silent Partner before proceeding.
Step 1. Check for updates.
You should update Silent Partner regularly, and if you haven't done so in a few months, you may have missed some fixes - maybe for the problem you are experiencing! Silent Partner does not automatically push updates to your computer, so it's a good idea to check for updates at least twice a year.
Note: if you haven't updated Silent Partner within the past year, please contact support!
Go to Help > Check for program update. If there is no update, you can proceed to Step 2
If there is an update for your software, it will download and this message will appear. Click "OK" and restart Silent Partner.
When Silent Partner opens, you will see this message - click "OK."
Click "OK" again.
Step 2. Run a checkup on data dictionary.
Running a check-up on the Data Dictionary ensures that the structure of the data tables is what Silent Partner expects. The structure of the data tables can change when Silent Partner is updated.
Go to Maintenance > Master Data Dictionary > Complete Check-up
Step 3. Rebuild Index Files
Indexes in a database are like bookmarks or indexes in a book. They help the software find information rapidly. When you rebuild index files, Silent Partner refreshes the index files to ensure everything is in the proper order.
Go to Maintenance and click Rebuild Index Files
Step 4. Recalculate Donor Statistics.
Recalculating Donor Statistics recalculates yearly giving values for donors.
Go to Maintenance > Miscellaneous items > Recalculate Donor Statistics
Once you've tried the steps above, try running your operation again to see if your problem is resolved.
If these steps do not resolve your problem, run a back up and send a copy to Silent Partner.
Go to Maintenance > Backup/Restore and select an option that includes "Upload to Silent Partner Software."
Then contact support and let them know what steps you have taken and what problem you are experiencing.
Exact error messages and screen shots are very helpful to the Silent Partner support team!
